Состояние обязательств участника рынка, например, позиция открытая – когда есть разница между размерами сделок, заключенных им на покупку и продажу определенного товара, и закрытая – когда такой разницы нет: сколько купил, столько продал. Различаются также позиция длинная и позиция короткая: в первом случае по данному товару размер обязательств по сделкам покупки превышает размер обязательств по сделкам продажи, во втором случае соотношение обратное. Разница между совершенными участником рынка сделками покупки и продажи определенного товара называется чистой позицией. Она является главным показателем, учитываемым, например, при игре на понижение цены (в процессе конкуренции).
